Born in Lisbon, Isabel Contreras Botelho paints and draws for a long time. Although personally assumed as figurative, her paintings have a personal life, gestural and intuitive but, simultaneously, conceptual and marked by symbolisms.
Memories and spiritual moods, images of objects seen in the past, in places and moments perhaps imagined. She works with various types of materials, but her preferences are oils, acrylics, charcoal and dry pastel. She shows a set of works under the subject “The Woman”, not the idealized woman, but the real one, who shapes her day-to-today life with an opalescent matter, all transformed into a vigorous and at the same time delicate plastic art…
Always followed an independent streak, transforming her artistic creations into very personal scenes full of meaning.
Since 2003 made more than 20 solo exhibitions in Portugal and Africa and has her work represented in private collections, museums, town councils and companies.
She had also the Revelation Prize awarded by the Portuguese magazine Lux in 2007, she was selected to participate in the Florence Biennale in October 2015, she had the invitation to the Honorary Committee of the 150th Anniversary of the Portuguese Red Cross exhibition of painting in October 2015 and was also Artist Invited in Abril of 2019 -3ª BIENAL INTERNACIONAL de ARTE GAIA 2019.
